Odoo Community Bangladesh: Learn, Connect and Contribute

An independent community portal for Odoo in Bangladesh: learning pathways, training, events, a partner directory, Bangla-market guidance and how to contribute.

Updated Applies to Odoo 17 to 19By Odoo Bangladesh Community

Odoo Community Bangladesh is an independent, community-run portal for people who use, build on, learn or evaluate Odoo in Bangladesh. It is not affiliated with Odoo S.A., does not sell licences and does not implement projects. What it offers: Bangladesh-first guides to Odoo 17 to 19 (VAT and Mushak, payroll under the Labour Act 2006, bKash and bank workflows, local hosting), structured functional and technical learning pathways, a calendar of meetups and webinars, a neutral partner directory, and a place to ask questions. This page explains what the community is, how to use the portal depending on who you are, and how to contribute.

Why a community portal for Bangladesh

Odoo's own documentation is thorough but written for a global audience. A Bangladesh accountant reading it will not find how to produce a Mushak 6.3 tax invoice, how to configure VDS and TDS withholding, or how to set the July to June fiscal year. A developer in Dhaka will not find which OCA modules local implementers rely on, or how to host for data residency. A business owner comparing options will find vendor marketing in every direction and little neutral guidance in BDT.

The community fills that gap. Everything here is written for Bangladesh first, dated, tagged with the Odoo version it applies to, and reviewed for neutrality: no sales pitches, no ranking of firms, no invented case studies.

Two meanings of "community"

The phrase causes confusion, so it is worth separating:

TermMeaningWhere it is covered here
Odoo Community editionThe free, open source (LGPL) edition of the software, self-hostedPricing page, open source ERP guide, module pages
Odoo Community Association (OCA)A non-profit that maintains hundreds of open source add-on modules, including the accounting and reporting modules widely used on Community editionModule and technical training pages
The Odoo community in BangladeshUsers, freelancers, partners, trainers, students and contributorsThis portal, events, forum, partner directory

This portal serves the third meaning and documents the first two.

Who the portal is for, and where to start

Business owners and decision makers

You want to know whether Odoo fits, what it costs in BDT and how to avoid a failed project. Start with what Odoo ERP is, then the pricing page and the implementation cost page. Use the comparisons to see Odoo against ERPNext, SAP Business One and Dynamics 365 with Bangladesh localisation in mind. Finish with the ERP readiness checklist before talking to any provider.

Accountants, operations and HR staff (functional users)

You will use Odoo daily or lead a module rollout. The functional training track covers Accounting, Inventory, Manufacturing, HR and POS with Bangladesh data: 15 percent VAT, Mushak 9.1 grids, festival bonus and gratuity rules, load-shedding-aware POS setups. Each topic has a syllabus, practice exercises and a recommended order. The functional syllabus lays out the whole path.

Developers

Odoo development in Bangladesh is a growing career path, with demand from local partners, in-house ERP teams and remote work for foreign firms. The technical training track covers deployment, the ORM, module development, OWL front-end and performance on Odoo 17 to 19. The developer resources page collects tooling, OCA conventions and local hosting notes. The career guide describes functional and technical roles and how people typically progress.

Students and career changers

Many people in Bangladesh enter the Odoo field from accounting, commerce or computer science backgrounds. The career guide explains the functional consultant and developer paths, the skills employers look for, and how to build a portfolio on a free Community installation. Training batches, when scheduled, are listed on the training page.

What the community does

  • Publishes guides: modules, industries, comparisons, landing pages and blog posts written for Bangladesh.
  • Runs or lists events: meetups in Dhaka and online webinars with Q&A. See the events page. Recordings and write-ups are published afterwards where available.
  • Maintains a neutral partner directory where firms and freelancers list their own profiles. Listing is not an endorsement, and the partner evaluation guide explains how to judge any provider.
  • Answers questions: the forum and the FAQ collect common questions, from "how do I print a Mushak 6.3" to "which hosting keeps my data in Bangladesh".
  • Shares resources: checklists and syllabi you can download and adapt.

Bangladesh-specific knowledge the community maintains

This is the material you will not find in generic documentation, and the community keeps it current as Odoo versions and NBR rules change:

TopicWhat the community documents
VAT and NBR15 percent VAT configuration, reduced rates, Mushak 6.3, 6.7, 6.8 and 9.1 outputs, VDS and TDS withholding on vendor bills, sales and purchase registers
Fiscal yearJuly to June configuration, lock dates, year-end closing, audit trail
PayrollLabour Act 2006 rules: festival bonus, provident fund, gratuity, overtime at double the basic rate, minimum wage grades for garments
PaymentsbKash, Nagad and Rocket merchant journals, post-dated cheque handling, local bank statement imports
LocalisationBangla UI and report translations, lakh and crore number formatting
HostingLocal data centres versus international cloud, data residency questions, backup discipline, UPS and connectivity for POS and factory floors
IndustryGarments (bonded warehouse, UD and LC tracking, line output), distribution, retail, construction, education, services, SMEs
PricingOdoo published plans in USD with BDT conversion ranges, and community-observed implementation ranges from BDT 3 lakh to 1 crore plus

All figures are presented as ranges with assumptions, and software pricing always points you to odoo.com/pricing because prices change yearly.

The freelancer and partner landscape

Bangladesh has a mix of official Odoo partners, independent software houses and a large pool of freelancers, many of whom started in partner firms. The community does not count or rank them, because any such number would be out of date within months. What it does is explain how to evaluate them: official partner tiers, certifications on Odoo 17 to 19, references on localisation work, support hours in Bangladesh time, and contract terms including code ownership. If you are a provider, you can list a profile; if you are a buyer, you can compare profiles against the evaluation framework.

How to contribute

The portal improves when practitioners share what they have learned. You can:

  1. Correct a page. If a Mushak rule, a version note or a price range is out of date, send the correction through the contact form.
  2. Write a guide. Bangladesh-specific how-tos, for example configuring withholding taxes or integrating a fingerprint attendance device, are welcome. Hypothetical worked examples are fine; invented customers and statistics are not.
  3. List an event. Meetups, webinars and training batches with a date, location and registration link.
  4. Share a resource. Checklists, templates, sample chart of accounts for a Bangladesh company.
  5. Answer questions. Forum answers from experienced users are the most valuable content on the site.

Contributions are reviewed for accuracy, neutrality and house style (plain English, Bangladesh first, no sales language) and credited to the contributor.

Odoo versions and keeping guidance current

Odoo releases a major version every October and supports the three most recent. Community pages state the version range they apply to, currently Odoo 17 to 19, and carry an updated date. When a new version changes a feature that affects Bangladesh users, for example the Accounting app changes between 16 and 17, the relevant pages are revised. If you find a page that no longer matches the version you are on, say so.

Bangla content

Most of the search demand for Odoo in Bangladesh, especially around pricing and training, is in Bangla. Bangla versions of the landing and pricing pages are planned once the English set is complete. Contributors fluent in both languages are particularly welcome.
